A quick look around social media will show you what the latest thing we’re all supposed to be upset about it. One of the biggest that I’m seeing right now is snowflake conservatives throwing a fit because some black characters are being included in Amazon’s Rings of Power series. How dare they allow such a thing, which flies in the face of Tolkien himself!
Of course, that same energy was seemingly nonexistent from the same crowd when Jackson didn’t have Frodo wait over a decade after the Big Party to embark on his adventures. There have been numerous changes from the books of Tolkien when making the jump to the screen, but it’s rather clear what the real source of anger is when you see people throwing a fit on their webcams on this subject.
But, that’s the problem. See, we’re supposed to all join in on the discussions and get mud all over ourselves about this crap because that’s the game. I in no way support the stances being promoted all over right-wing sites in regards to the ads for the show, but I also don’t care enough about them once again trying to disguise their racism, either.
When you join in on the Culture Wars, no one actually wins. The people on the right will walk away with the same stances, feeling like they won because the liberals got triggered. The liberals will pat themselves on the back for combating the latest evil viral talking points and then move on to the next one when it pops up in a week. The circle continues as we otherize ourselves in the name of the game.
A government handbook was once put out, years ago, that told employers that they could combat union talk, in part, by always keeping workers distracted with other conversations. It’s the same energy on a bigger scale.
A look at poll after poll shows that “leftist” agendas are actually very popular in the country. Sure, they take some rewording to remove buzzwords that many conservatives and liberals have been taught to hate, but they’re popular nonetheless. It’s the loudest that often seem the majority and the loudest are the ones caught up in the game.
Democrats are so afraid of finding common ground with Republicans that they write anyone that challenges the authority of public servants that they stan off. They’ll call you a Trumpster, a secret Republican pretending to be a leftist, or a Russian bot. When you point out that the party they’ve aligned with is a corporate owned crew that speaks nice words, gives out a few crumbs occasionally, but otherwise sides with the Republicans far more often than not while rarely getting any of their goals done, you’re the enemy.
It helps that the DNC always has a few handpicked scapegoats to disguise what’s going on, of course.
Under Biden, it’s been the Senate Parliamentarian, the Republicans, Sinema, and Manchin.
Of course, this ignores that the Democrats could still easily get things done if they wanted. Biden’s refusal to use the bully pulpit, the way the Democrats have pushed back against ending the filibuster, and the braindead maneuvering such as splitting the corporate based, wildly inadequate Infrastructure bill from the Build Back Better bill are a few examples.
It should be noted rather quickly here that BBB has already been happily nerfed to hell and it is wildly inadequate as well, even if it did get passed.
Campaign promises have been dropped left and right, but if you point this out you’re reminded that all politicians do this. That’s the acceptable response many have landed on.
There’s always an excuse.
A quick pause should note, again, for any that might be reading that consider themselves offended by the words above, but I am in no way a Trumpster, a secret conservative, nor a Russian bot.
I’ve been shamed for the very notion that I believe Americans should vote for whomever earns their vote, regardless of party affiliation. I have personally never voted for a Republican and doubt I will, but I have rarely found a Democrat worthy of my vote, either.
How dare I not VBNMW, right?
Fall in line, or you’re the enemy.
Falling in line loses your voice. The Democrats are about to fail at an epic level in the midterms and might drop the White House back to the Cheeto in a few more years because of their inept behavior and the official excuse being floated by the group that can never allow for reflection and accountability is to blame the leftists. This is a party that has rehabilitated the images on war criminals often of late and increasingly looks like a woke version of the 90’s GOP.
But I am the enemy.
Biden promised to be a more green friendly president to your faces, but promised nothing fundamental would change to his owners. He rejoined pointless alliances that pretend to seek an answer to the Climate Crisis and set meaningless goals meant for random, handpicked dates that will never be met. Meanwhile, this administration has increased drilling and has in no way made an meaningful impact on the situation that looks to kill us all.
He’s outpaced Trump on permit approval.
Biden called Trump’s border policies inhuman, yet has continued the same practices and battled in the courts to keep it that way.
He supports journalists unlike mean man Trump, but has continued to attack Assange and currently has banned reporters from on-the-ground coverage of the Russian/Ukraine situation.
The Federal prison population has grown wildly as we funnel more and more into the legalized slave system.
Promises to reform the broken police system has instead seen the administration call for an increase of budgets while also giving larger and larger spending is also handed to the defense side.
Single-payer has been left in a ditch, too.
Remember, Democrats have been claiming to support the cause of single-payer for far longer than most remember.
Nancy Pelosi, now being far more honest on her stance of the concept, even ran on the idea. Too bad she never has to debate a challenger and is handed victories in her lifetime ride as a public servant, though.
Lets take a trip through recent history, though:
-In 2006 and 2008, the Democrats passed a single-payer plan that was vetoed by the GOP. Meanwhile, Obama took a Republican healthcare plan and relabeled it. He partnered with Big Pharma to make sure it looked nice to them, and got that passed. Republicans had to give their base something to argue about, so they attacked it despite enjoying the idea just as much. It was all meant to funnel even more Americans into the broken system and nothing more.
-In 2012, the Democrats have a supermajority and didn’t pass single-payer.
-In 2017, they once again had a supermajority but shelved the vote.
It’s a long con. Tell you one thing, but always have an excuse. The longer we fall for this behavior, the worse we’re all off.
So, if you feel the need to complain about Rogan, Rings of Power, or whatever the new thing is, that’s fine. Just remember to walk and chew gum at the same time, because the longer you spend your energy punching in the wrong direction…
well, nothing fundamental will ever change.
