The Wastefulness of Self-Immolation, a Commentary on Wynn Bruce's Suicide

rwplusb.substack.com

Last Friday, on Earth Day, Wynn Bruce set himself on fire in front of the Supreme Court. He’d die after being airlifted to a local hospital.

Wynn was apparently a climate activist and manager of a photography studio and was from Boulder, Colorado.

He was 50 years old.

One tweet, reportedly from someone that knew him personally, said the following:

So, is his death an act of artistic defiance or an absolute waste of life?

Considering his now burnt and rotting flesh in no way will influence substantial change from a system that is owned by the industry that would have the most to lose, I’d think it’s just a tragic death in the same way that it’s tragic when you see a famous person say something so fucked up that they ruin their career in seconds.

I mean, it’s sad in a way but mostly just because of the potential that was just snuffed out immediate.

The fact is far scarier than most are willing to admit. Maybe Wynn thought the same, hoping his extreme act would make a dent. But that just shows that he in fact never truly got it.

That’s tragic, as well.

You see, as I alluded to above, and as anyone that reads my shit would already know, the United States government is the meat pajamas but the industrial filth is the skeleton.

Simply setting yourself ablaze in front of an undemocratically positioned pillar of the capitalist system means very little, because this system is responsible for daily travesties made in complete malice.

Why the fuck would they care about you?

I suppose you, Wynn, who is incapable of reading this right now considering….well, I’m thinking you were hopeful that maybe they’d finally start caring about the climate crisis that is already starting.

The one they’ve known about for decades.

The one they have lied and controlled the narrative on that entire time.

Yeah, I’m sure that system will suddenly give a damn.

It’s a cost/risk analysis and a get rich quick and fuck everyone else kind of situation, folks.

They know very well that there is no future if things aren’t immediately changed and they clearly have made their choices.

So, please, for the love of <insert whatever god or whatever you want here>, work towards changing the system (which requires you to immediately drop anyone from the two party system), and never allow the pigs to see you snuff yourself out.

My sincere condolences to the family, friends, and all that were touched in general by Mr. Bruce and I apologize if anything said here, to those people, was taken to be hateful in anyway.
